In some versions of the myth he was considered the equivalent to Eros in some ways. However, he was much more known in the Orphic myths where he was hatched from that weird world egg created by Chronos (sometimes Aion) and Ananke. Over time he was adopted into traditional Greek mythology with the rest of the gang because, hey, what’s one more God of love and procreation?
